Date & Time
Working days in a year & business days left in year (NETWORKDAYS)
Count Monday–Friday dates in a year or remaining date window, excluding a supplied holiday list.
Why 2026 has 261 raw Mon–Fri weekdays—not always 260!
A common year has 52 full weeks plus one day; a leap year has two extra days. The count of Monday–Friday dates therefore depends on the weekday of January 1. The 2026 example has 261 before the supplied exclusions.
NETWORKDAYS counts the start and end dates when they are working days. It excludes the supplied holiday dates but does not download regional holidays or infer observed dates.
The three dates are an illustrative company calendar, not a complete national holiday list. Update the calendar when changing year. This counts potential working dates, not automatically billable hours: leave, part-time schedules, shifts and utilization need separate assumptions.
| Calendar Year / Window | Formula | Raw Mon–Fri | Net of 3 Holidays |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full Year 2026 (Jan 1 = Thu) | =NETWORKDAYS(DATE(2026,1,1), DATE(2026,12,31), Holidays) | 261 days | 258 workdays |
| Full Year 2023 (Jan 1 = Sun) | =NETWORKDAYS(DATE(2023,1,1), DATE(2023,12,31)) | 260 days | — |
| Remaining from 2026-10-01..Dec 31 | =NETWORKDAYS(B2, DATE(YEAR(B2),12,31), Holidays) | 66 days | 64 workdays left |
Total net working days in Year A2 and remaining workdays from Date B2
Holiday dates falling on Saturday or Sunday are ignored automatically by NETWORKDAYS—only weekday holidays reduce the count.
=NETWORKDAYS(DATE(A2, 1, 1), DATE(A2, 12, 31), $D$2:$D$4)Working days remaining in the year (inclusive of As-Of Date B2)
Includes B2 if it is a workday. For a strictly future window, start at B2+1 and first check that it is not after December 31; otherwise NETWORKDAYS can return a signed reversed-interval count. Use valid numeric dates and a complete calendar for the chosen year.
