ROUNDUP function: calculate how many boxes or packs are needed
Any leftover item requires another container. Divide item count by container capacity inside ROUNDUP(..., 0) so partial packs always round up to the next whole box.
Why standard ROUND leaves items unpacked
Packing 53 labels (A2) into sleeves of 12 (B2) gives 53 / 12 = 4.4167 sleeves. Standard ROUND(53/12, 0) rounds down to 4 sleeves (48 labels), leaving 5 labels without a sleeve.
| Items (A) | Capacity per sleeve (B) | Sleeves needed |
|---|---|---|
| 53 | 12 | 5 |
| 48 | 12 | 4 |
| 0 | 12 | 0 |
Round non-zero fractions up to the next whole number
With 0 as the second argument, ROUNDUP moves any fractional part away from zero to the next integer: =ROUNDUP(A2/B2, 0) turns 4.4167 into 5 sleeves. When A3 = 48, 48 / 12 is already an exact 4, so ROUNDUP(4, 0) stays 4 without adding an empty fifth sleeve.
=ROUNDUP(A2/B2,0)Check zero items and guard positive capacity
Zero items (0 / 12 = 0) returns 0 sleeves. Capacity in B2 must be strictly positive: a 0 capacity produces #DIV/0!, and a negative capacity has no physical meaning. Guard B2<=0 explicitly when templates start blank.
