Reverse word or category breadcrumb order inside a cell
Flip hierarchical paths ("Global / US / Retail / Shoes" -> "Shoes / Retail / US / Global") or space-separated words using vertical TEXTSPLIT + SORTBY.
Split into rows, reverse with SORTBY(..., -1), and rejoin
Taxonomy exports often list categories broadest-to-narrowest ("Global / US / Retail / Shoes"), whereas product feeds or organizational rollups need leaf-to-root order ("Shoes / Retail / US / Global").
Passing your delimiter as the THIRD argument (row_delimiter) of TEXTSPLIT(A2, , " / ") spills tokens vertically into rows, letting SORTBY(w, SEQUENCE(ROWS(w)), -1) invert their exact order before TEXTJOIN(" / ", TRUE, ...) stitches them back together!
| Original String (A) | Delimiter | Reversed Output |
|---|---|---|
| Global / US / Retail / Shoes | " / " | Shoes / Retail / US / Global |
| Alpha Beta Gamma | " " | Gamma Beta Alpha |
| SoloCategory | " / " | SoloCategory |
Reverse breadcrumb path and space-separated word formulas
Works for 1, 2, or 50 segments automatically without fixed-column assumptions.
=LET(w, TEXTSPLIT(A2, , " / "), TEXTJOIN(" / ", TRUE, SORTBY(w, SEQUENCE(ROWS(w)), -1)))Reverse space-separated words
TRIM normalizes repeated ordinary spaces before splitting into words. Other whitespace needs separate normalization.
=LET(w, TEXTSPLIT(TRIM(B2), , " "), TEXTJOIN(" ", TRUE, SORTBY(w, SEQUENCE(ROWS(w)), -1)))Inputs and interpretation
The path delimiter is the exact string space-slash-space. TEXTJOIN with ignore_empty TRUE drops empty components. TRIM normalizes ordinary ASCII spaces, not every Unicode whitespace character. This reverses tokens, not letters or a filesystem path with all possible separator conventions.
