Date & Time
Repeat a payment every 3 months (or N months) in a monthly financial model
Build a monthly schedule that includes the start month and repeats an illustrative payment every positive whole number of months.
Model quarterly and semiannual bills cleanly inside a monthly FP&A timeline
Monthly 3-statement and cash-flow models run column-by-column or row-by-row in 1-month steps, yet property taxes, bond coupons, and enterprise software bills hit every 3, 6, or 12 months starting on a specific contract month (e.g., Feb, May, Aug, Nov)!
Computing elapsed months from Contract Start D2 via m = (YEAR(A2) - YEAR($D$2)) * 12 + MONTH(A2) - MONTH($D$2) handles multi-year rollovers effortlessly. Testing (m >= 0) * (MOD(m, $E$2) = 0) fires the payment ONLY on or after the start month at exact N-month multiples!
| Timeline Month (A) | Elapsed Months m (vs. Feb 2026) | MOD(m, 3) = 0? | Scheduled Cash Outflow |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-01-01 (Before start) | m = -1 (< 0) | Blocked (m < 0) | $0 |
| 2026-02-01 (Start month) | m = 0 | MOD(0, 3) = 0 -> Yes! | $4,500 |
| 2026-03-01 & 2026-04-01 | m = 1, 2 | No | $0 |
| 2026-05-01 (+3 months) | m = 3 | MOD(3, 3) = 0 -> Yes! | $4,500 |
Trigger fixed payment every N months on or after contract start
D2=StartMonthDate, E2=IntervalMonths (3 for quarterly, 6 for semiannual), F2=PaymentAmount ($4,500).
This is a month-bucket schedule, not an exact payment-date scheduler: days within a month are ignored and the start month is included. It does not adjust weekends, holidays, maturity or proration. Use one row per month to avoid counting the same monthly event twice. Dates are numeric DATE results; the interval must be a positive integer.

Changing IntervalMonths E2 from 3 (quarterly) to 2 (bimonthly: Feb, Apr, Jun) updates every row and total automatically.
