QUOTIENT function: calculate full cases or whole hours without remainders
Return only the integer portion of division with QUOTIENT, and pair it with MOD to split totals into full packs plus leftovers.
Split total units into full cartons and loose items
QUOTIENT(numerator, denominator) divides two numbers and discards the fractional remainder toward zero. Pairing QUOTIENT(149, 12) = 12 full cartons with MOD(149, 12) = 5 loose bottles gives a complete packing breakdown.
| TotalBottles (A) | CartonSize (B) | FullCartons | LooseBottles |
|---|---|---|---|
| 149 | 12 | 12 | 5 |
Negative numbers: QUOTIENT truncates toward zero vs INT
For positive numbers QUOTIENT(A2, B2) equals INT(A2 / B2). For negative dividends they differ: QUOTIENT(-17, 5) truncates -3.4 toward zero (-3), whereas INT(-17 / 5) floors downward to -4.
The packing identity QUOTIENT(total, size)*size+MOD(total, size)=total shown here assumes nonnegative totals and a positive pack size. For negative totals, MOD follows floor-based division while QUOTIENT truncates, so that identity need not hold.
=QUOTIENT(A2, B2)Dividing by zero returns #DIV/0!
Passing 0 as denominator returns #DIV/0!.
