Rotate Pie Chart Formula: Exact First-Slice Angle to Center Callout at 3 O’Clock
Calculate the exact Angle of First Slice in degrees MOD(90 - 180 * Share + 360, 360) so a highlighted pie wedge or Bar-of-Pie connector centers symmetrically on the 3 o’clock horizontal axis.
Stop eyeballing Pie rotation sliders — compute exact 3 o’clock symmetry!
Pie chart rotation starts at 0° (12 o’clock vertical) and sweeps clockwise, placing 90° horizontally at 3 o’clock where right-hand callout boxes and secondary Bar-of-Pie stacks attach. If your focal first slice B2 occupies share p = B2 / SUM(B2:B5), its angular width is theta = 360 * p degrees and its half-angle is 180 * p degrees.
To align the slice bisector squarely at 90° (or any target azimuth alpha_target), set Angle_of_First_Slice = MOD(90 - 180 * (B2 / SUM(B2:B5)) + 360, 360). Adding +360 before MOD(..., 360) handles majority slices (> 50%, where half-angle > 90°) cleanly without negative-angle wrap issues!
