Logical
NOT function: invert TRUE/FALSE and exclude blocked statuses cleanly
Negate logical tests and multi-value exclusion lists with NOT(OR(...)) so dispatch and approval rules stay easy to audit.
Make exclusion rules easier to read with NOT(OR(...))
NOT(logical) flips TRUE to FALSE and FALSE to TRUE. While a single inequality can be written with <>, excluding two or three blocked statuses is often clearer as NOT(OR(C2="Hold", C2="Cancelled")) than chaining multiple <> tests.
Combining AND with NOT(OR(...)) lets you express "order value is at least 100 AND status is neither Hold nor Cancelled" directly.
| Order Amount (B) | Status (C) | OR(Hold, Cancelled) | Release Decision |
|---|---|---|---|
| 250 | Approved | FALSE -> NOT = TRUE | Release |
| 250 | Hold | TRUE -> NOT = FALSE | Hold |
| 250 | Cancelled | TRUE -> NOT = FALSE | Hold |
| 95 | Approved | Amount < 100 | Hold |
Combine AND with NOT(OR(...))
If either blocked status matches, OR returns TRUE, NOT turns it into FALSE, and AND blocks release immediately.
=IF(AND(B2>=100, NOT(OR(C2="Hold", C2="Cancelled"))), "Release", "Hold")Numeric coercion inside NOT
Like IF, NOT treats numeric 0 as FALSE (so NOT(0) is TRUE) and any non-zero number—positive or negative—as TRUE (so NOT(5) is FALSE).
