Learn a formula with AI hints, then test it yourself

Practise order totals by finding a missing row, predicting the result and checking a changed input. Ask AI for a hint before asking it to solve the task.

Start with a result you can calculate by hand

Enter three order totals: 18, 27 and 15 in B2:B4. Their total is 60. Write that prediction down before entering a formula. The point of this exercise is to explain the range, not simply obtain a number.

Find the deliberately incomplete range

Try =SUM(B2:B3). It returns 45 because it omits B4. Ask the Pro assistant: “Do not change any cells yet. Give me one hint about why this total misses an order.” A useful hint should direct your attention to the endpoints of the range.

Make your own correction

Use =SUM(B2:B4) in an empty cell. Check that the result is 60 and explain why B4 is included. An AI explanation is a suggestion to inspect, not evidence that your workbook has been checked.

Change one input to test understanding

Change B4 from 15 to 25. Predict 70 before recalculating. If your total stays at 45, the last row is still outside the range; if it stays at 60, inspect whether the output is a typed value rather than a formula.

Move from a guide to practice

Use the on-page example to experiment without AI. The Open with AI link opens a separate workbook and prepares a request; sending it requires Pro and available credits. Replace that request with the hint-only prompt if you want to solve the exercise yourself. Finish by explaining the change in one sentence; this article does not award course completion.
