Information
ISEVEN and ISODD: test number parity for alternating-row banding and routing
Route odd/even street numbers, badge IDs, or worksheet rows with ISEVEN and ISODD—including decimal truncation rules.
Route records by even/odd ID or highlight zebra rows
ISEVEN(number) returns TRUE when the truncated integer part of number is divisible by 2 (including 0 and negative evens like -4). ISODD(number) returns TRUE when the truncated integer part leaves remainder ±1.
Pairing ISEVEN(ROW(A2)) inside conditional formatting rules shades every even worksheet row automatically, and IF(ISEVEN(BadgeID), "Lane A", "Lane B") routes records by parity; equal queue sizes are not guaranteed.
| Input (A) | Truncated Integer | ISEVEN | ISODD |
|---|---|---|---|
| 104 | 104 | TRUE | FALSE |
| 105 | 105 | FALSE | TRUE |
| 2.9 | 2 (truncates decimals) | TRUE | FALSE |
Decimals truncate before testing parity
ISEVEN(2.9) truncates 2.9 to 2 first and returns TRUE—it does NOT round to 3!
=IF(ISEVEN(A2), "Lane A", "Lane B")Guard non-numeric text entries explicitly
Check ISNUMBER(cell) first when badge columns can hold text placeholders like "TBD".
