Date & Time
Get quarter start date and quarter end date from any date
Snap any transaction date to the first day (Jan 1, Apr 1, Jul 1, Oct 1) and last day (Mar 31, Jun 30, Sep 30, Dec 31) of its calendar quarter.
Map months 1–12 to quarter start months 1, 4, 7, 10
ROUNDUP(MONTH(d) / 3, 0) computes the calendar quarter number q in {1, 2, 3, 4}.
Quarter q always starts in month (q - 1) * 3 + 1 (1, 4, 7, or 10) on day 1, and ends on the last day of month q * 3 (3, 6, 9, or 12) via EOMONTH(DATE(YEAR(d), q * 3, 1), 0).
| InputDate (A) | Quarter # | Quarter Start | Quarter End | Days Left in Qtr |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-05-19 | 2 (Q2) | 2026-04-01 | 2026-06-30 | 42 days |
| 2026-11-10 | 4 (Q4) | 2026-10-01 | 2026-12-31 | 51 days |
Quarter start date, end date, and days remaining
For numeric SUMIFS boundaries omit the outer TEXT call. Use >= quarter start and < quarter end + 1 to include all timestamps on the last day.
=TEXT(DATE(YEAR(A2), (ROUNDUP(MONTH(A2) / 3, 0) - 1) * 3 + 1, 1), "yyyy-mm-dd")Quarter end date formula
EOMONTH handles 30-day Q2/Q3 ends (Jun 30, Sep 30) and 31-day Q1/Q4 ends (Mar 31, Dec 31) automatically.
=TEXT(EOMONTH(DATE(YEAR(A2), ROUNDUP(MONTH(A2) / 3, 0) * 3, 1), 0), "yyyy-mm-dd")Inputs and interpretation
These are calendar quarters, not shifted fiscal or 4–4–5 quarters. Use valid numeric dates. The days-remaining example excludes the reference date and assumes it has no time component; use INT(A2) when counting whole calendar days from timestamps.
