Financial

Expense or headcount begins on specific month (FP&A start/end date trigger)

Turn planned hires, SaaS subscriptions, and fixed-term contractor costs ON at StartMonth and OFF after EndMonth across a multi-column FP&A forecast.

Drive a monthly cost schedule from start and end inputs

Use actual date values for the monthly headers and start/end inputs, normalized to the first day of each month. The start and end months are both included. A blank end means the model assumes the cost continues through the forecast horizon.

Enter =IF(AND(E$1>=$B2,OR(COUNTBLANK($C2)=1,E$1<=$C2)),$D2,0) in E2, then fill across and down. The dollar signs keep the input columns and header row fixed.

This is a whole-month scheduling assumption, not daily proration, payroll calculation, revenue recognition, or a statement that a role is permanent. Validate that start is present and any end is on or after start. Mid-month dates require an explicit policy before use.

The preview seeds January through March. Add further first-of-month headers and fill formulas to extend the schedule.

Role / VendorStart ($B)End ($C)Mo Cost ($D)Jan / Feb / Mar / Apr
Sr Engineer2026-02-01(Blank = Ongoing)$12,000$0 / $12k / $12k / $12k
Audit Contractor2026-01-012026-02-01$5,000$5k / $5k / $0 / $0

Dynamic Start/End month FP&A trigger formula

A blank end date is open-ended within the model. It does not determine the employment or contractual status.

=IF(AND(G$1 >= $B2, OR(COUNTBLANK($C2) = 1, G$1 <= $C2)), $D2, 0)

Test fixed-term contractor expiration after EndMonth

Returns 0 automatically in March (G$1) once the contractor's Feb EndMonth ($C3) has passed.

=IF(AND(G$1 >= $B3, OR(COUNTBLANK($C3) = 1, G$1 <= $C3)), $D3, 0)
