EVEN and ODD functions: round quantities away from zero to pair or odd counts
Round order quantities up to twin-pack even integers with EVEN or centered odd display counts with ODD.
Why EVEN(3.1) = 4 and ODD(4) = 5
EVEN(number) rounds away from zero to the nearest even integer, so twin-pack items never come up short: EVEN(3.1) = 4, and an already-even integer like EVEN(4) stays 4.
ODD(number) rounds away from zero to the nearest odd integer: ODD(2.1) = 3, and passing an even integer like ODD(4) steps up to 5. Negative values also round away from zero: EVEN(-3.2) = -4 and ODD(-4) = -5.
| RawQty (A) | EVEN(A) | ODD(A) |
|---|---|---|
| 3.2 | 4 | 5 |
| 4 | 4 | 5 |
| -3.2 | -4 | -5 |
Size twin-pack orders with EVEN
Dividing EVEN(A2) by 2 gives the exact number of 2-unit blister packs needed.
=EVEN(A2)Check negative symmetry away from zero
Both EVEN and ODD round away from zero. CEILING/FLOOR behavior for negative inputs depends on the function variant and significance, so do not substitute those functions without checking the sign rules.
