Count rows with at least N matching values across columns (COUNTIF & FILTER)
Count or list records with at least N Pass labels across four training modules, using a per-row COUNTIF helper.
Count matching labels across each row
Each row represents a training record with four module labels. COUNTIF counts cells matching Pass; the helper is then compared with a nonnegative integer threshold. A threshold of zero selects every row, and a threshold above four selects none.
COUNTIF is case-insensitive: pass also matches Pass, but extra spaces are not removed. Blank cells and other labels are not passes. This is a label-counting exercise, not a certification or compliance decision. Duplicate names remain separate records.
| Technician (A) | Mod 1..4 (B:E) | Row Passes (F) | Meets >= 3? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elena | Pass, Pass, Pass, Pass | 4 | Yes |
| Marcus | Pass, Fail, Pass, Fail | 2 | No (< 3) |
| Priya | Pass, Pass, Fail, Pass | 3 | Yes |
| Devon | Fail, Fail, Pass, Fail | 1 | No (< 3) |
| Sofia | Pass, Pass, Pass, Fail | 3 | Yes (3 qualified techs!) |
Count rows meeting at least H2 column matches
Row-level F2:F6 =COUNTIF(B2:E2, "Pass") makes the multi-column threshold instant and auditable.
=IF(COUNT(H2)<>1,"Invalid threshold",IF(OR(H2<0,H2<>INT(H2)),"Invalid threshold",COUNTIF(F2:F6, ">=" & H2)))Extract names of rows meeting at least H2 matches
Raising H2 from 3 to 4 tightens the rule to 100% unanimous completion ("Elena").
=IF(COUNT(H2)<>1,"Invalid threshold",IF(OR(H2<0,H2<>INT(H2)),"Invalid threshold",IFERROR(TEXTJOIN(", ", TRUE, FILTER(A2:A6, F2:F6 >= H2)), "None")))Try the example
