Date & Time
Count holidays between two dates (all calendar holidays vs weekday-only)
Distinguish total listed holidays inside a window (COUNTIFS) from weekday holidays that actually reduce working days (NETWORKDAYS difference).
Calendar holidays vs working-day holidays when dates fall on Saturday
COUNTIFS(Holidays, ">=" & Start, Holidays, "<=" & End) counts every holiday date in your table that falls inside [Start, End]—even if July 4, 2026 lands on a Saturday!
To count ONLY holidays that fall on Monday–Friday (holidays that actually subtract a workday from a project sprint), subtract NETWORKDAYS(Start, End, Holidays) from NETWORKDAYS(Start, End)!
| Holiday Date (D) | 2026 Day of Week | In example date window? | Costs a Mon–Fri Workday? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-05-25 (Memorial Day) | Monday | Yes | Yes (-1 workday) |
| 2026-06-19 (Juneteenth) | Friday | Yes | Yes (-1 workday) |
| 2026-07-04 (Independence Day) | Saturday! | Yes (3 calendar) | No! (Already weekend -> 2 workdays) |
Weekday-impacting holidays vs total calendar holidays
Subtracting holiday-adjusted NETWORKDAYS from unadjusted NETWORKDAYS isolates Mon–Fri holidays (and automatically deduplicates accidental duplicate dates in your holiday list!).
=NETWORKDAYS(A2, B2) - NETWORKDAYS(A2, B2, D2:D5)Count all listed calendar holidays in range (including weekends)
Counts every holiday date >= Start and <= End regardless of day of week.
=COUNTIFS(D2:D5, ">=" & A2, D2:D5, "<=" & B2)Inputs and interpretation
These are listed holiday dates, not a complete jurisdiction-specific calendar. Use numeric dates without time fractions, start <= end, and a Monday–Friday workweek. COUNTIFS counts duplicate entries; the NETWORKDAYS difference measures lost workdays. Observed dates may differ from nominal dates; maintain the calendar your organization actually follows.
