Convert Budget Amounts Between Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Annual Units

Compare recurring amounts using an explicit periods-per-year table. Calculate planning equivalents, not calendar-accurate payment dates or payroll entitlements.

Annualize first, then divide by the target frequency

This hypothetical budget uses 365 daily periods, 52 weekly periods, 12 monthly periods, 4 quarters and 1 year. Equivalent amount = source amount × source factor ÷ target factor. A monthly amount of 600 therefore has an annual equivalent of 7200.

The factors are planning conventions: 52 weeks contain 364 days, not 365, and actual months have different lengths. Daily does not mean working day. This model does not calculate invoices, salary entitlements, leap-year totals or actual cash-flow dates.

Keep the five unit labels in E2:E6 unchanged. Factors may be adjusted to a consistent documented planning basis, but must remain positive numeric values and Annual must remain 1. Missing or unrecognized units produce a message; signed amounts and zero are allowed.

Results are rounded to two decimals for display. Do not build a chain of conversions from rounded results if precise reconciliation is required; use the original amount and factors.

Convert to the target unit in D2

H2 holds the guarded conversion. Select one of the five unit labels for C2 and D2.

=IF(COUNT(B2)<>1,"Enter a numeric amount",IF(OR(E2<>"Daily",E3<>"Weekly",E4<>"Monthly",E5<>"Quarterly",E6<>"Annual"),"Restore the five unique unit labels",IF(COUNT(F2:F6)<>5,"Enter positive numeric factors",IF(OR(MIN(F2:F6)<=0,F6<>1),"Use positive factors and Annual=1",LET(sourceFactor,XLOOKUP(C2,$E$2:$E$6,$F$2:$F$6,0),targetFactor,XLOOKUP($D$2,$E$2:$E$6,$F$2:$F$6,0),IF(OR(sourceFactor=0,targetFactor=0),"Unknown Frequency",ROUND(B2*sourceFactor/targetFactor,2)))))))

Annual planning equivalent

H3 uses the same checks but always selects Annual, regardless of D2.

=IF(COUNT(B2)<>1,"Enter a numeric amount",IF(OR(E2<>"Daily",E3<>"Weekly",E4<>"Monthly",E5<>"Quarterly",E6<>"Annual"),"Restore the five unique unit labels",IF(COUNT(F2:F6)<>5,"Enter positive numeric factors",IF(OR(MIN(F2:F6)<=0,F6<>1),"Use positive factors and Annual=1",LET(sourceFactor,XLOOKUP(C2,$E$2:$E$6,$F$2:$F$6,0),targetFactor,XLOOKUP("Annual",$E$2:$E$6,$F$2:$F$6,0),IF(OR(sourceFactor=0,targetFactor=0),"Unknown Frequency",ROUND(B2*sourceFactor/targetFactor,2)))))))
