Date & Time
Check If a Date Is a Workday (Exclude Weekends & Holidays)
Check a Monday–Friday work calendar against an explicit list of organization closure dates, with validation for missing dates and timestamp handling.
Define the calendar
NETWORKDAYS counts inclusive Monday–Friday workdays and excludes the dates you supply. It does not retrieve national holidays or know bank cut-off times. The two supplied closure dates are an example organization calendar, not a complete official holiday schedule.
This small example requires both closure entries to be numeric whole-day dates. Expand the validation together with the range when adapting a longer calendar. A different weekend pattern needs a different calendar formula.
=IF(COUNT(A2,D2:D3)<>3,"Enter three numeric dates",IF(OR(A2<1,D2<1,D3<1,D2<>INT(D2),D3<>INT(D3)),"Use positive dates and whole-day closures",NETWORKDAYS(INT(A2),INT(A2),D2:D3)=1))Classify the result
INT(A2) removes the time part of the date being checked. A Saturday or Sunday is labeled Weekend, even if also listed as a closure. A matching weekday is Listed closure; other weekdays are Workday.
These labels describe the supplied calendar only. They do not guarantee that a payment can settle or that a legal deadline is met.
=IF(COUNT(A2,D2:D3)<>3,"Enter three numeric dates",IF(OR(A2<1,D2<1,D3<1,D2<>INT(D2),D3<>INT(D3)),"Use positive dates and whole-day closures",IF(WEEKDAY(INT(A2),2)>5,"Weekend",IF(COUNTIF(D2:D3,INT(A2))>0,"Listed closure","Workday"))))Test the calendar
July 2, 2026 is a Thursday and passes. July 3 is a listed Friday closure and fails. July 4 is Saturday and fails. Remove or change a closure and verify how the result changes; incomplete inputs should produce a validation message.
