Date & Time
Calculate expiration dates and days remaining (days, months, or month-end)
Add fixed shelf-life days, calendar warranty months (EDATE), or end-of-month expirations (EOMONTH), and flag expired items.
Three standard expiration rules in inventory and contracts
Choose the expiration rule specified by the product or agreement: a fixed number of days, a number of calendar months using EDATE, or the end of a month using EOMONTH. These are alternative policies, not universal rules for food, licenses or warranties.
Comparing ExpiryDate < CheckDate flags expired lots cleanly instead of showing confusing negative day counts.
The example treats the expiration date itself as zero days remaining, not yet Expired. Define whether the deadline is inclusive and which time zone applies. Use date-only inputs for this countdown; shelf-life values must come from the appropriate product specification.
| ProdDate (A) | Rule | Formula | Expiration Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-03-15 | +90 shelf days | A2 + B2 | 2026-06-13 |
| 2026-03-15 | +12 warranty months | EDATE(A2, C2) | 2027-03-15 |
| 2026-03-15 | End of 12th month | EOMONTH(A2, C2) | 2027-03-31 |
Shelf-life expiry and remaining-days countdown
March 15, 2026 + 90 days lands on June 13, 2026; checked on May 14, 2026, 30 days remain.
=IF((A2 + B2) < D2, "Expired", (A2 + B2) - D2)Formatted ISO expiration dates
EOMONTH(A2,C2) gives March 31, 2027 for the chosen month-end rule. It does not itself establish or extend a warranty.
