Bucket Elevator Critical RPM, Pole Distance & Capacity Formula

Calculate Centrifugal Pole Distance hp = g / omega² (m), Critical Zero-Throw Pulley Speed Ncrit (RPM), Linear Belt/Chain Speed (m/s), and Mass Elevating Capacity Qm (t/h).

Run a centrifugal bucket elevator above its critical pole-distance RPM and grain pins to the bucket wall—dumping back down the return leg!

Vertical grain legs and cement clinker bucket elevators throw material cleanly across the head chute ONLY when centrifugal acceleration `omega^2 * r` balances gravity `g` in the upper quadrant! In vector mechanics, the resultant of downward weight `m*g` and outward centrifugal force `m * omega^2 * r` always points away from a fixed geometric point on the vertical centerline located at Pole Distance `h_p = g / omega^2` (m, where `omega = 2*PI()*N / 60` rad/s) above the head-shaft center! If `h_p` shrinks inside Head-Pulley Radius `R` (`N >= N_crit = (60 / (2*PI())) * SQRT(g / R) ≈ 29.90 / SQRT(R)` RPM), centrifugal force exceeds gravity even at top dead center (`12` o’clock), pinning pellets inside the buckets until they spill down the back-legging casing! Centrifugal elevators therefore run at `~78%–86%` of `N_crit` (`h_p > R`), delivering Mass Capacity `Q_m = 3,600 * (v_belt / Pitch_m) * (V_bucket_L / 1,000) * Fill * rho_b` (t/h)!

Verify on a 700 mm Head-Pulley Grain Leg—Effective_Radius `R` = 0.350 m (B2 -> Critical Speed `N_crit = 50.55` RPM in E3), Operating_Speed `N` = 42.0 RPM (`83.1%` of `N_crit`, B3 -> Pole Distance `h_p = 0.507` m > `0.350` m in E2 & Belt Speed `v = 1.54` m/s in E4), Bucket_Struck_Volume = 4.50 L (B4), Bucket_Spacing = 0.250 m (B5), Fill_Factor = 0.75 (B6), and Corn_Bulk_Density = 0.80 t/m³ (B7): Vertical Elevating Capacity equals `59.85` t/h (E5)!

Validate `Radius R > 0.1` m, `RPM > 0` AND strictly `RPM < N_crit` (guarding against centrifugal back-legging!), `Bucket_Vol > 0` L, `Bucket_Spacing > 0.05` m, `Fill` in `(0, 1]`, and `Bulk_Density > 0` t/m³!

High-Speed 50.0 RPM Near-Critical Pole Approach Check (Set Speed N = 50.0 RPM vs 52.0 RPM Pinning)

Speed the head drive up to `B3 = 50.0` RPM (just below `50.55` RPM critical): Pole Distance E2 shrinks to `0.358` m (barely clearing the `0.350` m pulley rim!), Belt Speed E4 reaches `1.83` m/s, and Tonnage E5 hits `71.25` t/h—whereas pushing to `52.0` RPM trips `"OVER CRITICAL RPM (BACK-LEGGING)"`!
