AI Assistant Role Matrix: Cell Suggestion Routing vs. Structural Command Guards
Audit how Arte Sheets routes AI cell edits into reviewable proposals for Suggesters while enforcing Owner/Contributor roles and <=100-cell / <=20-row limits on structural commands.
Why AI cell edits and structural sheet commands follow different permission gates
In Arte Sheets, collaborative workbooks assign each participant one of four roles—owner, contributor, suggester, or viewer—and allow contributors or owners to toggle Suggest Mode on at any time. When you send a text or <= 3-minute WebRTC voice request to the AI Assistant, cell-level plans (propose_changes and apply_changes, capped at <= 100 cell changes per plan) check whether role = "suggester" or Suggest Mode is active: instead of failing, they convert into cell-level suggestions that reviewers can accept or reject.
By contrast, structural workbook commands—insert_rows, delete_rows, insert_columns, delete_columns (1-based index, count <= 20), create_chart (column, bar, line, area, pie, doughnut, or scatter over an explicit <= 10,000-cell range), create_sheet, rename_sheet (<= 31 chars), and select_sheet—cannot be staged as cell-level suggestions and require an active owner or contributor session outside Suggest Mode on an unprotected sheet. Invitation sharing (share_document) additionally requires an email-verified owner and always opens a confirmation preview rather than auto-sending or running inside execute_steps.
| AI Action Class | Owner (Direct) | Contributor (Direct) | Suggester / Suggest Mode | Viewer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cell Values / Formulas / Styles (<= 100) | DIRECT_APPLY (Undoable) | DIRECT_APPLY (Undoable) | SUGGEST_CELLS | BLOCKED_READONLY |
| Insert/Delete Rows/Cols (<= 20) & Charts | DIRECT_APPLY | DIRECT_APPLY | BLOCKED_READONLY | BLOCKED_READONLY |
| share_document (viewer/suggester/contributor) | OWNER_CONFIRM_PREVIEW | BLOCKED_NOT_OWNER | BLOCKED_NOT_OWNER | BLOCKED_NOT_OWNER |
Role- & Budget-Aware AI Action Routing Audit Formula
Model the exact client-side validation gate in a governance matrix so team leads can verify which planned AI operations apply directly, queue as cell suggestions, require owner confirmation, or exceed per-plan bounds.

Before issuing a multi-step voice or text prompt (execute_steps, up to 10 steps stopping on first error), count how many steps will apply cleanly under the current collaborator role.
