Multi-Step AI Spreadsheet Commands: Sheets, Rows/Columns, Charts & Role-Aware Sharing
Chain up to 10 ordered workbook steps (create/rename/select sheets, insert/delete rows or columns, populate formulas, and build charts) in Arte Sheets while keeping collaborator invitations gated behind explicit owner confirmation.
How bounded multi-step execution builds a summary sheet + chart—and why sharing stays human-confirmed!
A single natural-language request in Arte Sheets’ AI assistant (text or voice) can execute up to 10 ordered structural and cell steps via execute_steps: creating and activating a new worksheet (create_sheet, unique name <= 31 characters without \ / ? * [ ] :), renaming or switching tabs (rename_sheet, select_sheet), inserting or deleting 1-based rows or columns (up to 20 total across the batch, deleting only when explicitly requested), populating up to 100 cells/formulas (apply_changes), and plotting a chart on an explicit range such as A1:B5 (create_chart supporting column, bar, line, area, pie, doughnut, and scatter)! If a step fails validation, execution stops immediately and reports how many steps completed—keeping earlier completed steps intact rather than silently discarding them.
Permissions are strictly enforced at every layer: viewers, protected sheets, and suggesters cannot run structural/chart commands, and share_document is NEVER bundled inside automated multi-step batches or auto-sent! Only a verified-email owner can prepare a sharing preview card (for an explicitly stated email with viewer, suggester, or contributor edit access), and no invitation is sent until you click Send invitation yourself!
| Assistant Command Category | Validated Scope & Parameters | Permission & Confirmation Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Sheets & Structure (create/rename/select, insert/delete) | Sheet names <= 31 chars; <= 20 rows/cols (1-based index) | Requires active edit access on unprotected sheet |
| Charts (create_chart) | column, bar, line, area, pie, doughnut, scatter on A1:B5 | Explicit range <= 10,000 cells, <= 50 charts/sheet |
| Multi-Step Batch (execute_steps) | 1–10 ordered steps, <= 100 edited cells total | Stops on first error; earlier steps remain; excludes sharing |
| Workbook Sharing (share_document) | viewer, suggester, or contributor for explicit email | Owner-only preview card; requires clicking Send invitation |
Chart-Ready Regional Revenue Share % = IF(SUM(B2:B5) <= 0, "No Chart Revenue", ROUND(B2 / SUM(B2:B5) * 100, 2))
Computes North’s percentage share of A1:B5 revenue for pie/doughnut or column chart labeling.
=IF(SUM(B2:B5) <= 0, "No Chart Revenue", ROUND(B2 / SUM(B2:B5) * 100, 2))High-Performing Regions Subtotal (>= $12,000) via SUMIFS
Totals regional revenue rows meeting or exceeding the $12,000 benchmark.
